Welcome to Pneuma Yoga

Greetings!

Welcome to Pneuma Yoga! My name is Rick, and I am honored to be your guide toward holistic health and well-being. I am a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and an experienced E-RYT 500 Somatic Yoga Instructor, having studied at Yoga North, the International Soma Yoga Institute, in Duluth, MN. Holistic health is my passion, and I am deeply dedicated to empowering our ability to self-heal.

My journey to wellness has been transformative. I survived two bouts of cancer, endured endless treatments, and overcame a horrific motorcycle accident, which led to a long struggle with constant pain and suffering. My path eventually brought me to yoga, and more uniquely, Soma Yoga. Through these powerful practices, I finally started to feel like myself again and found relief from my struggles.

I am deeply passionate about Soma Yoga and even more passionate about sharing its benefits with others. Thank you for joining me on this journey to health and well-being.

At Pneuma Yoga, my mission is to empower individuals to embark on their own paths to healing and self-discovery. By blending the wisdom of traditional yoga philosophy, Thomas Hanna Somatics, and mindful breathwork, I cultivate harmony between mind, body, and spirit. I am committed to guiding you on this journey, offering support, encouragement, and expertise every step of the way.

Thank you for choosing Pneuma Yoga as your partner in health and wellness. Together, let's unlock the full potential of your mind, body, and spirit.

Warm regards, Rick

What are Somatics?

Somatics is a mind-body therapy that focuses on the connection between movement and awareness. It involves mindful muscle contractions and releases called pandiculations. These help restore natural movement patterns, quickly releasing built-up tension and stress in muscles and fascial tissues. Somatics improves mobility, reduces pain, enhances range of motion, and boosts physical performance. It also increases body awareness and mindfulness, reducing stress and anxiety for a more balanced life.

Who Can Benefit?

Somatics is for anyone looking to improve movement and physical well-being. It's suitable for people of all ages and abilities, including athletes, dancers, office workers, seniors, and those recovering from injuries or chronic pain. By re-educating the nervous system through gentle movements and mindfulness, somatics helps alleviate tension and pain, improve posture and balance, and increase flexibility and mobility. Ultimately, anyone seeking greater comfort and ease in their body can benefit from somatics practice.

The breath is everything!

Foundation of Life
: The breath is the very foundation of life, as it is the first action we take upon entering the world and the last before leaving. It sustains our existence by oxygenating our cells, balancing our Ph, regulating the nervous system, immune system and removing waste products.

  • Body Health: Proper breathing, particularly through the nose and using the diaphragm, promotes optimal oxygenation of the blood, improves circulation, enhances digestion, and supports the immune system. It helps maintain balance within the body's systems, reducing the likelihood of chronic illnesses and promoting overall well-being.

  • Mind Clarity: Conscious breathing has a profound impact on mental clarity and cognitive function. Deep, rhythmic breathing calms the mind, reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, and enhances focus, concentration, and memory. It fosters a sense of inner peace and emotional stability.

  • Energy Vitality: The breath is intricately linked to our energy levels and vitality. Deep, diaphragmatic breathing optimizes oxygen intake, boosting energy production at the cellular level. It revitalizes the body, increases stamina, and enhances physical performance, allowing us to engage fully in daily activities with vigor and enthusiasm.

  • Emotional Regulation: Breath awareness and intentional breathing techniques serve as powerful tools for emotional regulation and self-awareness. By tuning into the breath, we can observe and modulate our emotional responses, cultivate resilience, and navigate challenging situations with greater ease. It fosters a sense of inner balance and equanimity, enabling us to respond to life's ups and downs with grace and resilience.

  • Consciousness Expansion: The breath is a gateway to expanded consciousness and spiritual awakening. Conscious breathing practices, such as pranayama and

The details about pain

Understanding Chronic Pain:

Chronic pain often stems from our daily habits and responses to stress. Over time, repetitive movements and poor posture lead to chronic muscular tension, perpetuating discomfort. This cycle is reinforced by Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA), where the brain forgets how to release tense muscles, causing them to remain contracted. Chronic inflammation and mental distress further compound the issue.

Breaking the Cycle:

To break free from chronic pain, we must address the root causes:

  1. Muscular Tension and Stress: Chronic pain arises from persistent muscular tension due to stress and trauma. Somatic exercises help unlock subconscious habits and relieve long-held tension.

  2. Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA): SMA causes the body to forget how to release tense muscles, leading to pain and limited mobility. Through Pneuma Yoga, we work to retrain the body's natural movement patterns.

  3. Mind-Body Connection: Our approach emphasizes the connection between mind and body. Stress and trauma can manifest as muscular contractions, contributing to pain. By reconnecting with the body and bringing awareness to these patterns, we can alleviate pain.

  4. Re-education and Mindful Movement: The solution lies in re-educating muscles and the brain through mindful movement. Somatic practices aim to restore the sensory-motor loop, allowing muscles to relax and promoting natural movement patterns.

The Approach:

I take an individualized approach, working closely with you to develop a personalized plan that you can continue practicing at home. My goal is to help you unlock your unique physical, energetic, mental, and emotional blockages. By integrating somatic bodywork, breath retraining, and yoga practices for stability and strength, I aim to support your journey toward holistic health. Additionally, I incorporate yogic and Ayurvedic philosophy to promote a healthy lifestyle and mindset.

Together, we will create a comprehensive plan that empowers you to achieve lasting well-being. Join me and experience the transformative power of personalized yoga therapy.
